Down, dirty, grinding - no we aren't talking about adult content, just the day to day minutia of a web development and graphic design shop. Each gruelling little detail analyzed in stark contrast against larger deadlines, expectations, and the infernal gap between developer knowledge and our clients understanding led us to throw our weight behind some new apps and methods.
For instance we smoothed the ground this week and laid out the tiny little after thoughts - the bits of techno-garble and the annoying moments of innovation that we used to accept as the dark side of IT and made them better or just plain found new solutions. Like taking several different hosting packages domain specific email support and ditched them for a Google Apps email system. No more cryptic set-ups and crap spam filtering, coupled with archaic web interfaces for our traveling clients. Now everything is GMAIL friendly and accessible from anywhere on the road. Google mysteriously buries the link to set this up, or maybe we just feel it deserves more prominence, either way if you have a "hate on" for your current hosting email package then we suggest jumping ship like an estranged lover. We've been using it for a while but now the evangelizing has taken on new proportions; we want everybody to convert to Google Apps Amen! NDC also started working the scene on some new clients websites. We assumed management on Georgina Sonmor's excellent dry soup products website www.glenlocharsoups.com. When we got under the hood we discovered things weren't quite as rosy as we wanted them to be. After some quick deliberation we came to the conclusion that a swift rebuild of the core wordpress template was in order. Monsieur Denis Leblanc was itching to try out some hyper cool development streamlining using the 960 grid system. To say the least the results are clean, smooth, elegantly simple CSS with all the stability we ever hoped for. Go get some Glenlochar soup and reward yourself for reading our blog! The really burning question however is; Will all this process refinement, technology streamlining, and development WOW result in more time for our NDC heros to give some love to that most enigmatic effort we long to bring to life? Mimesis? Stayed tuned fans and lets see if good taste in art will prevail! |
