Do you want to know the inside scoop on what creative web crazed hipsters think about life the universe and everything? Do you want to learn acronyms and industry language about your design or web project so you can woo friends, and bludgen your detractors with catch phrases that elicit praise and cause potential mates to faun? Perhaps you are interested in getting the razor sharp edge on your competition to exploit the market with efficient, disciplined, honed market ready techniques that will catapult you into a handsome corporate buyout, or a guest appearance on Oprah?
Well we can't promise any of that here, but can offer some of our thoughts and seasoned experience on visual communications and web development in the blog postings below...

Wisdom from the fringe, and execuses for the masses |

So we didn't blog for way to many weeks. We apologize, we have lots of excesses I mean excuses, but most of them involve criminal levels of design work and web development. None of them, however well crafted, take into account that our NDC fans have been waiting with baited breathe for more blog goodness, so here you go...
We had another smokin' hot few weeks at NDC. We staunched a few old wounds and poured ourselves into the fray on web development and design goodness for some clients who needed the kind of love only a designer can deliver.
We discovered that preparing for a Motorsport adventure is kind of like being in a motorsport adventure, just without the roll cages, leather race suits, and motor oil, however we still managed to launch the registration process for Targa Canada West and we feel like champions after all.
Also shout outs to Glenlochar Kitchens who makes good soup, and has a smart new logo from us to go with it. Wait till you see the packaging we are working on, you will want to buy every product and save them like hockey trading cards.
On the other side of our digital lives we managed to launch our endeavour for Mimesis Art Prints, where you can buy affordable art prints. We're happier than a truckload of bunnies and Rainbows released during International Life's a Musical day. We have had tremendous support from lots of amazing folks, and even some great criticism. However none of that says I love you like buying an art print from the website. You can even get all social media cozy by following us on twitter or joining our controversial fan page on Facebook! We are wondering if Mimesis may be the art prints equivalent of the French Revolution. However please keep your heads on though we need you intact for future marketing promotions!
In homage to Oprah, Ghandi, and Steve McQueen we would like to celebrate the fact that everybody has opinions, but not all of them are ours. Therefore it's important to remember what his holiness the Dali Lama said...
"Don't get offended ever again".
Thanks Dali you rock and so does everybody else! |

Keep it Simple or Risk Expletives! |

The vast majority of stuff we do leads us to the assumption that simplicity is the means to a grand existence full of resplendent vistas, happy children, and musical birds. However given our simple goals things tend to get complicated fast so here are a few simple rules that have gotten us through the week.

Down, dirty, grinding - no we aren't talking about adult content, just the day to day minutia of a web development and graphic design shop. Each gruelling little detail analyzed in stark contrast against larger deadlines, expectations, and the infernal gap between developer knowledge and our clients understanding led us to throw our weight behind some new apps and methods.

Doing the Stuff we do cause we do it |

Another week. Things are interesting with NDC. The moment we gave this little venture its own glory stricken pink presence it began demanding all sorts of stuff from us. For example it was no longer sufficient to look like some French resistance revolutionary back room bombed out office space with the dirty windows, now NDC wants good walls, decent trim, and some pink paint! Over the next couple months NDC is taking our office and turning it into a well honed design temple where daily prayers will be called from the roof over distorted loud speakers. We will chant stuff like GOOGLE LOVES YOU, and DESIGN WITH GRIDS. We can see the professionals gathering with their sleek indie clothing designed carpets laid out on the new floor (we intend to put in) bowing reverently to deities of design goodness. The whole scene will include Eucharist with Americano shooters, and organic spelt berry muffin wafers so that we may taste the proximity of graphic design love and the burning trinity of visual communication's compassionate heart. Is this starting to sound way to esoteric for a design firm? We roll that way sometimes... ask us about Vipassanā meditation during your new web design start up meeting.

Working like we mean it!! |

Well it's Fri -freaking- day and the week has blown by with the speedy kind of relish that only a hopped up sports car with nitrous injectors and a driver with a death wish can accomplish. At NDC we managed to continue some juicy design updates to the site, We sent out a butt-load of RFP's which is slightly less than a shit-load, and we got tested on our knowledge and ability to deliver good web. (I think we passed!), all while continuing to make some very important clients as happy as chimps with sticks in front of an overflowing ant hill. (Stop and taste that imagery for a moment!)

Some Things deserve Life. Kind of like everything! |

We sweated, drew blood, drank way to much coffee, and ate lots of good food. We even cussed a few times while we laboured on giving birth to Nelson Design Collective! The guys here can't claim to know, and the girls laugh at any attempt to pretend like building a website is even remotely similar to giving birth. However we can't help but feel giddy about the new site. We are still cooing at it and waving our fingers flirtatiously at the screen.

I'll admit, we've been slacking on getting this website up and running but it doesn't mean we haven't been working. The Collective has actually been hard at work developing an art print resource. The operation name and the details are confidential for now but you'll definitely hear about it when the site gets launched. It does sound like a load of crap but I assure you, it is happening and at full speed. More on that topic very soon.
The rumor is true, we are in it for the coffee.
